EDS Council meeting has started in Yerevan. The resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide will be discussed

On 9 December at RPA Central Office EDS Council meeting has started. It should be mentioned that RPA Youth Organization became a member of the largest youth organization in Europe in the summer of 2015. The meeting is held in Yerevan at the invitation of RPA Youth organization. During the opening ceremony the Head of RPA Youth organization Karen Avagyan, welcoming about 50 young people from 20 countries, underlined that the agenda of the meeting is quite heavy. He expressed hope that the meeting in Yerevan will be effective. “We tried to do everything possible in order the representatives of EDS could better know our country in terms of political, historical and student-related processes. Active young people from different countries of Europe, which will play a key role in the management of their countries, European policy, participate in the decision-making process, have arrived in Yerevan. It is therefore very important that they know Armenia better”,-noted Karen Avagyan, informing that the agenda of EDS Council meeting included the resolution condemning and recognizing the Armenian Genocide, which will be discussed on 12 December.
We should mention that EDS is the official student organization of EPP. It unites 1.600.000 students and young people from 31 countries in Europe.
The Chairman of EDS Georgios Chatzigeorgiou noted that the main subject of their discussions will be the implementation of new governing models in EaP countries. “We know that on 6 December the referendum on constitutional reforms was held in Armenia and our discussions will be focused on advantages and disadvantages of the government systems, their good and bad sides”.
The opening ceremony of EDS Council meeting was attended by the RPA Vice-President, the RA Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan. He spoke about the RA Education system. The RA Minister of Education and Science underlined that Armenia joined the Bologna process in 2005, developing a platform of co-operation with the European Education Area. The Minister stressed that Armenia is the only non-EU member country, which assumed the secretariat of the Bologna process for 3 years and hosted the Ministerial Summit of the European Higher Education Area in Yerevan.
