Galust Sahakyan Receives the Parliamentary Delegation of the Republic of Indonesia

On October 12 the RA NA Speaker met with the delegation led by Irman Gusman, Speaker of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia.
Welcoming the members of the delegation in the National Assembly, Galust Sahakyan expressed confidence that the visit of the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Indonesia will promote the development of the Armenian-Indonesian friendly relations and cooperation.
The Speaker has documented that the Armenian-Indonesian historical relations emerge from the 16th - 17th centuries, when the Armenians emigrated from Nor Jugha and India and settled in different Indonesian cities.
Galust Sahakyan noted in his speech: “In the development of the inter-state relations the parliaments of our countries can have significant role. The parliamentary diplomacy is an important platform for advancing the political dialogue between the countries and developing the inter-state relations.”
The NA Speaker proposed his colleague to observe the possibility of creating Armenian-Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Groups in the Parliament of Indonesia.
Galust Sahakyan also stated that Armenia is resolute for the rapprochement of the Armenian-Indonesian partnership in the international organizations.
Touching upon the problem of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Head of the parliament has noted that Armenia is adherent to the settlement of the problem through peaceful negotiation based on the principles of the international law. However, Azerbaijan continues violating the ceasefire, as a consequence of which innocent people die.
Talking about the events in the memory of the Armenian Genocide Centennial, the NA Speaker has documented that the Republic of Armenia as a Motherland of the people who have survived Genocide, is the propagator of prevention of crimes against mankind.
The NA Speaker has opined that in the Armenian-Indonesian economic and business relations there is a big potential, and it is necessary to undertake steps for boosting the cooperation in the spheres of bilateral interest.
Thanking for the reception, Irman Gusman, Speaker of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia, has noted that it is a great honour for them to be hosted in a country with great historical heritage, in Armenia. Highlighting the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the development of the bilateral relations he has stated that Indonesia is ready to develop the relations with Armenia. Mr Gusman has underlined that there are perspectives of cooperation especially in the spheres of sport and tourism. Speaking about the settlement of the NK conflict, Irman Gusman has stated that all the problems should be solved through peaceful means, to have peace in the region and economic development.
Mr Gusman expressed hope that the visit of the delegation will promote the advancement of bilateral relations.
At the end of the meeting Irman Gusman left a note in the Book of Honourable Guests of the National Assembly, and then the Speakers of the parliaments of the two countries planted a fir-tree in the National Assembly Park as a token of the Armenian-Indonesian friendship.
