Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan had a meeting with the leader of the 5th district of Isfahan, Iran (New Jugha) Hamid Asarzadegan. Stressing the importance of the Armenian-Iranian centuries-old friendship and the present high level of cooperation Taron Margaryan pointed out that the relationship between Yerevan and its partner cities of Iran are close and the cooperation between the bodies of local self-government is successful. In this context the Mayor attached importance to the cooperation with Isfahan, Tehran and Shiraz. Referring to the partnership formed between Yerevan and Isfahan Taron Margaryan said the friendship started in 1995 and it has developed since then. “The bilateral visits of the recent years evidence that there is a large field for cooperation between the cities and within our powers we should expand the programs of cooperation for the welfare of the population of our cities. It should be noted that the bilateral communications between the two peoples is very important from the point of view of recognizing one another, national traditions and culture”, said Taron Margaryan adding that today there are a number of Iranians living, studying and working in Yerevan.
Expressing gratitude for warm welcome the leader of the 5th district of Isfahan (New Jugha) Hamid Asarzadegan in his turn assured that he will take active part in making the relationship between Yerevan and Isfahan more developed. “It is very important to develop bilateral cooperation especially in finding joint solutions to the problems common in some spheres of urban economy, including experience exchange. It’s very important for me to be in Yerevan, Mister Mayor, and I am sure that Yerevan and Isfahan really have a big potential for the implementation of joint projects. And as the leader of the district densely populated by Armenians, I’d like to assure you that I will do my best within my powers to strengthen and develop bilateral ties”, said Hamid Asarzadegan.
At the end of the meeting Taron Margaryan once again stressed that the Municipality of Yerevan is always open for cooperation and is ready to discuss any proposal aimed at the development of partnership between the cities of the two countries.
