 On June 4 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan received Essam Nayyal, Charges d’Affaires of Syria to the RA. The Head of Armenia-Syria Friendship Group Khosrov Harutyunyan and the NA General Secretary Hrayr Tovmasyan attended the meeting.

During the meeting the sides discussed issues regarding the Armenian-Syrian relations and regional problems, highlighted the further development of the inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The NA President Galust Sahakyan noted that the friendship traditionally binding the two countries and peoples would continue and deepen. In his word, Syria has its special place in the Near East direction of the RA foreign policy and Armenia attentively follows the events taking place already about three years in Syria. The NA expressed concern in connection with the clashes continuing in Syria, from which seriously suffers the urban population of the country, including the Syrian Armenians. He also expressed concern related to the situation created because of military clashes in the Armenian-populated villages of the Kessab Region, as a consequence of which there had been victims and hundreds of Syrian Armenian families had left their houses. Galust Sahakyan expressed hope that peace, stability and public solidarity would establish in Syria.

Congratulating Galust Sahakyan on the occasion of being elected the NA President the Charges d’Affaires of Syria introduced the inner-political situation created in Syria, the recent developments and the positive tendencies to the President of the National Assembly and touched upon the presidential elections which were held the day before.

In the course of the meeting the sides also referred to other issues of mutual importance.
