On April 8 the delegation led by the RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan took part in the works of the conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the European Union Member States.
Within the framework of the conference the Speaker of the RA National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan had bilateral meetings within the framework of the conference with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania Valeriu Zgonea and the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jan Hamáček on their initiative .
During the meeting of the RA NA Speaker and the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania issues regarding the enlargement of the Armenian-Romanian, particularly, the Armenian-Romanian inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed and the regional problems were touched upon.
The NA Speaker has noted that the inter-parliamentary component is important for the rapprochement of the Armenian-Romanian bilateral relations and has deemed important the development and deepening of relations between the parliaments of the two countries. Referring to the NK problem the NA Speaker has noted that Armenia is faithful to the peaceful settlement of the conflict through negotiations within the OSCE Minsk Group. Hovik Abrahamyan touched upon the events occurring in the town of Kessab resided by Armenians and expressed his concern over it.
The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania Valeriu Zgonea also highlighted the development of the relations of the two countries and in that context the deepening of cooperation between the parliaments. He invited Hovik Abrahamyan to Romania on an official visit for developing the cooperation in the Armenian-Romanian inter-parliamentary bilateral and multilateral formats.
The sides also emphasized the close cooperation of the parliamentarians of the two countries over the issues of bilateral interest in the international and regional organizations. They considered necessary the development of economic cooperation and discussed other issues of bilateral interest.
During their meeting the RA NA Speaker and the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic discussed a wide of scope of issues regarding the bilateral cooperation. The sides highlighted the further deepening of the inter-parliamentary relations, the development of economic relations and the cooperation in the international parliamentary structures.
The NA Speaker has noted that Armenia highlights the bilateral and multilateral cooperation with the Czech Republic, the continuity of political dialogue and the enlargement of the trade-economic cooperation. Hovik Abrahamyan expressed satisfaction with the existing high level of the inter-parliamentary relations. The NA Speaker touched upon Armenia’s decision of joining the Customs Union and Armenia-European Union cooperation.
Thanking for the meeting the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic highlighted the further development and deepening of the inner-state relations. In his word, today the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the world processes, the role of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups in the development of the bilateral ties is rather weighty, and in this context he has noted that the Friendship Group with Armenia in the Czech Parliament is the biggest in number.
In the course of the meeting the interlocutors touched upon the NK conflict, the Armenian-Turkish relations, the situation in the town of Kessab and other regional problems.
Hovik Abrahamyan invited his Czech counterpart to Armenia on an official visit.
