Meeting in the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations

On July 3 the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan met with Erikas Petrikas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the RA.
In the course of the meeting the sides discussed issues regarding the inter-parliamentary cooperation, highlighted the close work between the Parliamentary Friendship Groups. Both sides emphasized this period, when Lithuania had the chairmanship of the Council of the European Union and expressed hope that it would give an opportunity to further deepen the mutual cooperation within the framework of the European rapprochement.
The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan deemed necessary to activate the bilateral ties, particularly between the committees of the parliaments of the two countries, the results of which can mutually beneficial with respect to exchange of experience and cooperation in legislative activity. Artak Zakaryan has noted that the Armenian parliamentarians highly assess the activity of the Armenian-Lithuanian Friendship Group in the Seimas of Lithuania, as well as the Lithuanian deputies’ initiative of creating a Friendship Group with the parliament of Artsakh.
Ambassador Erikas Petrikas presented the priorities of the EU presidency of Lithuania and expressed readiness to continue the support in solving the existing problems within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. The Ambassador of Lithuania noted that Armenia and Lithuania had established friendly relations and expressed willingness to continue the cooperation in different spheres at inner-state level. It has been noted that, unfortunately, the cooperation is still weak in the economic sphere, and both sides expressed desire to activate it.
During the meeting the sides also discussed issues regarding Armenia-Lithuania cooperation in different parliamentary structures.
The Deputy Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Alexander Arzumanyan was also attending the meeting.
