HEATED DEBATES AMONG THE ARMENIAN, GEORGIAN AND AZERBAIJANI YOUNG PARTY MEMBERS

On June 29-30 members of the youth organization of the Republican Party of Armenia participated in the Forum of Young Politicians of the South Caucasus held in the Parliament of Georgia in Kutaisi. It was organized by the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy. Youth activists from Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan participated in the conference, 15 representatives from each country. Young politicians represented different political parties of their countries.
The program of the conference was composed of three parts - “European Neighborhood Policy: a view from the European Union and South Caucasus”, “International Security Challenges: a view from the South Caucasus”, “Economic cooperation: EU and the South Caucasus”.
Suren Petrosyan, a representative of the RPA youth organization, opened the forum and touched upon the European Neighborhood Policy, Euro-integration process in Armenia, tendency of democracy development in the country. The Nagorno Karabakh issue was raised during the forum. The attitude of the Azerbaijani delegation, as a rule, wasn’t constructive. The Armenian delegation proposed a document containing certain points on cooperation between young people in a civilized manner and without preconditions.
The proposal was approved by the organizers, representatives of EU and was included in a communiqué which indicated necessity of strengthening peace talks and effective cooperation between the states of the region.
The RPA representative concluded the Forum of Young Politicians of the South Caucasus.
