The final events dedicated to declaration Yerevan World Book Capital will take place on April 20

The Adviser to the Mayor of Yerevan Aram Sukiasyan presented the program of the final events dedicated to declaration Yerevan World Book Capital by the UNESCO. The program will start on April 20 at 18.00 in the area adjacent to Khnko Aper library with the ceremony of opening of the sculpture called “Reader” authored by artist and sculptor Nur (Arman Davtyan). The final events will take place in the foyer of the administration building of Yerevan City Hall, in the halls and in the yard where those present will be greeted by the Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan.
The Mayor’s Adviser informed that among the invited persons there will be representatives of the UNESCO and the UNO, the ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary and consuls of the countries the capitals of which had been world book capitals previously, about 50 writers from abroad. The official ceremony will take place at 19.00 with performances, a cultural program and premiere of documentary film “The history of world books”, with performances of classical and jazz music. Within the scope of the event a fair-exhibition of the new books published by Armenian publishers in the current year, presentations of books are provided and after midnight there will take place a wine ode to literature. An exhibition of exclusive materials and literature will be organized at the Yerevan History Museum .The entrance to Yerevan City Hall will be free for everybody from 19.30 till dawn. Since 23.00 buses will work every hour from the square adjacent to the City Hall.
Referring to the actions dedicated to the event Aram Sukiasyan noted that they were numerous and various. A number of celebrations and events were organized in educational and cultural establishments. The library fund of the capital has been completed with new books. 5 new book shops have been opened this year. The Adviser to the mayor stressed that the Municipality is ready to discuss constructive proposals regarding opening book shops in case they do not contradict urban development features of the capital. The title of the World Book Capital and the greeting speech of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan will be solemnly passed to Bangkok on April 23.
