 The issues related to cooperation expansion formed between the Municipality of Yerevan and the USA Embassy in the RA were discussed during the meeting of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to the RA John Heffner.
Greeting the Ambassador Mayor Taron Margaryan highly appreciated John Heffern’s attitude towards the programs of the capital’s development pointing out initiation of practical steps and active personal participation.
“We always welcome the initiatives of individuals and structures which this or that way promote rapid and efficient organization of development of the capital’s economy in different spheres. In this regard I can assure that the Municipality is always willing to support within its powers all the initiatives beneficial for Yerevan”, stressed Mayor Taron Margaryan.Expressing gratitude for warm reception and the willingness to expand cooperation John Heffern discussed with the Mayor the proposal of the initiative with the motto “We can” to be held on September 15, according to which a one-day action of cleaning up the litter accumulated in the areas surrounding historical places and memorials is provided by the support of the USA Embassy in Yerevan. The Ambassador mentioned that the initiators of the action are the representatives of the youth NGOs one of which the chairman of the “Young Biologists” association Arsen Gasparyan, who accompanied the Ambassador presented Mayor Taron Margaryan the details of the action. The latter assured this voluntary action which had already become widespread in the world will be held successfully in Yerevan as well in teamwork with the Municipality. He added that more than forty NDOs as well as a number of international structures and diplomatic representations had already expressed willingness to take part in the action.Welcoming the idea of the initiative Mayor Taron Margaryan stressed once again that the Municipality is open and willing to cooperate with all the structures which can contribute to making Yerevan more beautiful and well-arranged. Within the framework of supporting the action the Mayor assured that the sanitary cleaning organizations and other structures subordinated to the Municipality will also be involved in the clean-up of the areas, and the participants of the action will be provided with necessary equipment by the Municipality.Having thanked the Mayor for willingness to show support in this issue John Heffern in his turn assured that the Embassy will always participate and assist in the realization of such actions.Stressing the importance of public role in efficient management of urban economy Taron Margaryan presented the Ambassador the activity of the commissions recently formed within the Urban Development Council functioning adjunct to the Mayor among which there is a Youth Commission, so the opinions and proposals of different layers of the society will be reflected in decision making.
