NATO is not going to interfere into Karabakh conflict settlement process

16.03.2012

NATO is not going to interfere into the process of settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, James Appathurai, Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General for South Caucasus, said through the official Youtube channel of the Alliance.
"NATO hopes that peaceful settlement will be found to the conflict, but I want to once again state that the alliance is not engaged in the negotiation process. Nevertheless, we are ready to assist the OSCE Minsk Group in the settlement of the conflict," Appathurai said.
Leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan as well as co-chairs of the Minsk group are engaged in talks.
"During the past few weeks in the NATO headquarter we heard the statements of the leaders of the countries that they are ready to continue the negotiation process," he said.
According to Appathurai, the process often faces certain difficulties and it is quite natural.
He also expressed concern about the often bellicose statements and growing number of ammunition in the region.
"The South Caucasian region does not get necessary coverage by the international mass media," the NATO representative said.
