The European Union reconfirms its support to the Madrid Principles and calls on Armenia and Azerbaijan to come to terms on the basis of the mentioned principles, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said in a joint briefing with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Armenpress reports.
"As you know, the European Union attaches high importance to strengthening and establishment of peace and stability," Herman Van Rompuy said, in this context highlighting the need for settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
"EU is concerned about the tension on the line of contact. So, EU has undertaken relevant measures for strengthening of the ceasefire regime and avoiding tension," said the President of the European Council.
He also expressed gratitude to the President of Armenia for his visit to EU and expressed hope that the next meeting of the heads will be held in July in Yerevan.
