On September 28, the President of the RA National Assembly Galust Sahakyan received the Deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of France, Member of France-Armenia Friendship Group François Rochebloine.

Welcoming the guest in the parliament, Galust Sahakyan highly assessed the friendly relations existing between the two countries.

The NA President highlighted the effective activities of the Friendship Groups and the great contribution to the development of the inter-parliamentary relations.

The Head of the Parliament expressed his gratitude to François Rochebloine for defending Armenia’s interests and for permanently being next to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.

Talking about the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Galust Sahakyan has noted that the law on the Armenian Genocide recognition passed by France in 2001 will be perfect together with the law defining responsibility for the Genocide denial. The President of the RA National Assembly expressed hope that the French Parliament will be consistent for submission and adoption of the new bill, taking into consideration also François Hollande’s commitment.

Thanking the RA NA President for the warm reception, the Deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of France, Member of France-Armenia Friendship Group François Rochebloine has underlined with satisfaction the fact that he is here for celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Armenia and Karabakh. François Rochebloine noted that he also took part in the military parade dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the RA Independence and he, as a friend of Armenia, documented with satisfaction that during the previous five years the armament of the RA Army considerably increased.

Touching upon the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition, the French parliamentarian expressed hope that despite the existing difficulties, the French Senate will pass the law, which will complete the Armenian Genocide recognition and criminalization of the denial.

Talking about the April four-day war, the French parliamentarian expressed hope that such cases will never be repeated. He has noted that it is the 13th time he has already visited Nagorno Karabakh; after the April events he has been to Talish and Mataghis, got acquainted with the situation.

During the meeting the interlocutors touched upon the Constitutional reforms implemented in our country, the upcoming elections and other issues of bilateral interest.
