The State Commission on Preparation and Coordination of Independence Day-dedicated events met today in the Office of Government, chaired by Commission Chairman, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

“The 25th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence is our most cherished holiday. This is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate, remember, discuss, analyze and assess our achievements. The Commission must do everything in order to properly celebrate the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence,” the Premier noted, addressing the meeting with opening remarks.

Then the Prime Minister gave the floor to Chief of Presidential Administration, Head of Coordination Committee Vigen Sargsyan who provided details of the proposed festive events.

“Independence 25th anniversary-dated events should be considered from the perspective of those two ideological axes indicated by the President of the Republic of Armenia: the nation’s progress as a sovereign State and the ideas to serve as landmarks in presenting the achievements of our 25 years of independence,” Vigen Sargsyan said.

The meeting discussed the choice of the slogan and symbol of independence 25th anniversary, celebrations, the need to ensure active participation of Diaspora-based Armenians and youth, the organization of the Pan-Armenian Economic Forum, the preparation of festive events in Yerevan and the provinces, as well as other issues of topical interest. During the exchange of opinions that followed, those in attendance came up with several proposals and recommendations concerning the agenda.

Summarizing the discussion, the Premier stressed the need for proper organization of Independence 25th anniversary-dedicated events and coordination of the efforts of all relevant agencies.

The Prime Minister suggested that the committee members should submit their proposals and recommendations to the Committee Secretariat before the end of March so that a draft program and a timetable could be developed and presented for discussion by this April 15.
