NA President Receives the Head of the European Union Delegation to the RA

 On December 3 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan received Ambassador Piotr Switalski, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to the Republic of Armenia (RA).

Welcoming the newly appointed Ambassador, Galust Sahakyan congratulated him on the occasion of his appointment and wished him effective work, expressing hope that with his activities he will boost the further development and deepening of the Armenia-EU Partnership.

Speaking about the dynamic development of Armenia-EU Partnership, in that issue the Head of the Parliament highlighted the fruitful cooperation with the EU Delegation in Armenia.

Galust Sahakyan has noted that in deepening of comprehensive cooperation with the EU the commitment of Armenia is constant. In this context the NA President highlighted the decision of the Council of the EU on providing a mandate of beginning negotiations over the formation of the new legal basis for the relations with Armenia. The NA President has expressed hope that as a result of negotiations, the elaborated Action Plan will outline the comprehensive cooperation of mutual interest.

In the course of the meeting the NA President also touched upon the process of the Constitutional reforms going on in Armenia.

Thanking for the reception, Ambassador Piotr Switalski, Head of the EU Delegation, has stated that the RA National Assembly has an important role in the Armenia-EU relations.

Talking about the Constitutional reforms going on in Armenia, in that context Piotr Switalski emphasized the effective cooperation of Armenia with the Venice Commission. The Ambassador has been informed from his numerous colleagues that Armenia-Venice Commission cooperation has been exemplary.

The Ambassador has documented with satisfaction that the Armenian authorities publicly cooperate with the structure led by him, and they are ready to develop the cooperation. The Ambassador underlined: “The availability of the Armenian authorities and the level of dialogue are higher than in a number of other European countries.”

Piotr Switalski also talked about the provision of visa facilitaion regime to the European countries, particularly noting that after this procedure it is necessary to pass onto visa-free regime.

The interlocutors also discussed issues of bilateral interest.
