 On September 7 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan received the Parliamentary Delegation of the Kingdom of Belgium. Welcoming the members of the Belgian Delegation in the Parliament, the NA President highlighted the interaction and dialogue development between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Galust Sahakyan welcomed the establishment of the Friendship Group with Armenia by the Belgian deputies, representatives from the Belgian Parliament to the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Documenting that in our parliament the Armenia-Belgium Friendship Group has been functioning for a long time, the NA President has expressed confidence that the activation of the Friendship Groups’ activity will best serve to the deepening of the Armenian-Belgian friendship and development of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.

Touching upon the fact that the delegation’s visit takes place within the framework of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the NA President has noted that on 24 April 2015 the whole progressive humanity marked the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

According to the NA President, we should continue the struggle for the restoration of the historical truth, and achieve the result that all the countries recognize and condemn the Genocide, so that it is never repeated.

In this context Galust Sahakyan expressed satisfaction with the adoption of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide in July of this year by the House of Representatives of Belgium by which the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Belgium had been completed.

The NA President has noted that he is aware of the efforts made by the members of the delegation in the adoption of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide.

Touching upon the forthcoming visit of the delegation to Artsakh Galust Sahakyan highlighted such visits in terms of the solution process of the Nagorno Karabakh problem, the comprehensive awareness of the conflict background and sharing the received impressions with the colleagues. In the NA President’s word, these visits neutralize the informative isolation of Artsakh and make audible the Artsakh people’s voice in Europe.

Galust Sahakyan has noted the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict has no alternative: the only fair way of the comprehensive settlement of the conflict is the execution of the right of self-determination of the Artsakh people. It is also reflected in the recommendations of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs implementing a mediatory mission in the conflict settlement.

The NA President expressed conviction that the rise of the efficiency of the settlement process is impossible without full participation of Nagorno Karabakh, to which the Azerbaijani side continuously expresses against it.

The members of the Parliamentary Delegation of the Kingdom of Belgium expressed their gratitude to the RA NA President for the reception and documented that today in the parliament numerous effective meetings had been in place. The members of the Parliamentary Delegation presented to the RA NA President the process of the Armenian Genocide recognition, informing that it had a big response in Belgium, where the Turkish community is rather influential. The Belgian parliamentarians have noted that it is necessary to expand the resolution on the Genocide, including in it the Genocide of Pontic Greeks, Assyrians and Syrians. The guests also stated that the Flemish Parliament had also its small, but significant role in the adoption of the resolution.

Touching upon the coming visit to Artsakh, the members of the delegation have noted that their goal is to get acquainted with the situation on the spot and present the real picture to the international community.

At the end of the meeting the President of the RA National Assembly again expressed his gratitude to the Belgian MPs who arrived in Armenia with humanitarian mission and Gaspar Karapetian, the Chairman of the ARF Europe Hay Dat/Armenian Cause/ Committee, whose efforts are invaluable in the nation preservation and making audible the Armenian people’s voice in Europe.
