Prime Minister Receives Iraqi Kurdistan Minister of Planning

 Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received Minister of Planning of Iraqi Kurdistan Ali Sindi.

Welcoming the guest, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the visit will give new impetus to cooperation between Armenia and Iraq, and in particular, relations with Iraqi Kurdistan. Hovik Abrahamyan said Armenia is eager to strengthen ties with Kurdistan as evidenced by the establishment of Armenia’s Consulate General in Erbil.

Thankful for the reception, Ali Sindi conveyed warm greetings and good wishes to the Prime Minister, Government and people of Armenia on behalf of Kurdistan’s Prime Minister Nechervan Barzani. He pointed out that Kurdistan is interested in deepening relations with our country, and the purpose of his visit is to study investment opportunities in Armenia and discuss cooperation prospects with Armenian counterparts.

Pleased with the current level of political dialogue, the parties stressed the need to expand the scope of trade exchanges and identify new areas of mutual interest.

The role of the Armenian-Iraqi intergovernmental commission, the establishment of direct contacts between the business circles, the holding of conferences and business forums was emphasized in terms of full realization of the economic potential. The interlocutors noted that the third session of the Intergovernmental Commission is due to be held in Baghdad this fall. The session will provide the opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation in specific areas and implement practical programs.

Both sides hailed the efforts made by the respective embassies toward developing and deepening relations between Armenia and Iraq.

At the end of the meeting, Hovik Abrahamyan offered his warm greetings to Kurdistan’s Prime Minister Nechervan Barzani.
