Armenian Genocide Recognition Process Started 50 Years Ago

22.04.2015

A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

The Cabinet approved the Cooperation Framework Agreement signed between the Republic of Armenia and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay on July 9, 2014. The ratification and approval is symbolic because the civilized world is paying tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide worldwide in a bid to condemn the appalling crime committed against humanity. It is likewise emblematic since Uruguay was the first country in the world to recognize the Armenian Genocide exactly fifty years ago.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan noted in this regard: “Indeed, we owe much to the people and government of Uruguay who were the first among over two dozen other nations to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide fifty years ago.”

Tavush Marz administration was allocated AMD 3.7 million to offset the damage caused by the enemy shelling of 8 border settlements in the period between February 2 and 20, 2015.

To provide for successful implementation of the 2015 irrigation campaign, the Government established up to 170 million cubic meters water intake quota for the Sevan-Hrazdan irrigation-energy system.

The meeting approved a draft National Assembly resolution on approval of Republic of Armenia 2014 annual State budget performance report.

The Lanjazat Primary Health Care Center SNCO was set up to improve the quality of medical services provided to Lanjazat and Bardzrashen community residents in Ararat Marz of Armenia.

The meeting approved Armenia’s rights and obligations to be assumed under the EU-supported cooperation agreement with the International Organization. The Asian Development Bank and the European Investment Bank have extended USD 100 million and Euro 60 million respectively to finance the Trache-3 activity of the aforementioned road corridor project.

The co-financing program implied the receipt of a Euro 12 million grant under the European Union’s neighborhood investment facility to be used for construction and supervision of Lanjik-Gyumri road section under Trache-3, as well as to carry out a feasibility study for the North Tranche.

Another decision was passed to approve the North-South Road Corridor Stage-4 construction project investment loan agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Eurasian Development Bank. The document will help ensure continuity in reconstruction, improvement and widening activities for the road section leading from Agarak to Qajaran.

To effectively organize travel arrangements for Armenia-bound groups of Chinese tourists, the Cabinet instructed the Minister of Economy to ensure proper implementation of the corresponding memorandum signed on July 15, 2014.

Note that under the PRC laws, Chinese tourists are allowed to conduct guided tours only toward such countries as have been granted the Guaranteed Tourism Country status by the Chinese government.
