 Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended today the 14th meeting of the Joint Panel of CU-member States’ Customs Services.

The Prime Minister welcomed the Joint Panel’s first meeting of 2015 in Yerevan, which testifies to the efforts to enhance cooperation in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.

“The activities of the Joint Panel of Customs Services is aimed at elaborating and adopting such instruments that will help maximize the economic potential of our countries, harmonize and simplify customs procedures, organize concerted measures to combat smuggling, protect the domestic market against counterfeit and adulterated products. The Joint Panel also governs the mechanisms of coordinated operational activities and joint action for identification of customs offences,” the head of government pointed out.

According to Hovik Abrahamyan, the meeting will discuss a wide range of issues, and it is important to focus on the adoption of effective solutions at the inter-ministerial level.

“We need to refrain from declaratory decisions and statements and take effective steps to implement the customs agreements and, to that end, establish effective mechanisms, the Prime Minister emphasized.

The Head of Government noted that the priorities of the Eurasian Economic Union’s customs services should be as follows: combating customs crimes and corruption, deal with customs valuation issues, risk management, and exchange of information by electronic means.

Concluding his speech, Hovik Abrahamyan wished the meeting fruitful and productive work.
