 The working conference called “The role of the associations of local governments” started in Yerevan. Within the frames of the conference was started the program of the Council of Europe for Armenia for 2015-2017 called “Institutional support to the Union of Communities of Armenia”.

Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, the Minister of Territorial Administration Vache Terteryan, representatives of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (CLRACE) as well as the heads of a number of communities of Armenia took part it the opening of the conference which was held at the initiative of the Union of the communities of Armenia.
Stressing the importance of the cooperation between the Municipality of Yerevan and the Union of Communities of Armenia Mayor Taron Margaryan noted that the program is really important for the Union.

“Since the day of its foundation the Union of the Communities of Armenia has passed a serious was and is tightly connected with the formation of the system of local self-government in Armenia. Today to Union cooperates with non-governmental and governmental organizations. The spheres and directions of its activity can make up a long list. However, the Union has always lacked of recourses and the necessity to increase the opportunities. in this regard the program “Institutional support to the Union of Communities of Armenia” is the best opportunity to strengthen the organization. Taking the opportunity I’d like to greet the representatives of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe a member of which I used to be for a long time. I also greet the representatives of the partner organizations from European countries. Due to your participation we will have the opportunity to exchange experience which will be beneficial for all of us. I’d like to express gratitude to the agency of development and cooperation of Switzerland for financing this program”, stressed Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan wishing the participants of the working meeting effective work.
