Armenian-Georgian Friendship Bridge Construction Agreement Signed at Government

Attended by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, an agreement was signed today between the governments of the Republic of Armenia and Georgia on the construction of a new bridge over the River Debed at Bagratashen-Sadakhlo State border checkpoint.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Transport and Communications Gagik Beglaryan on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and by Georgian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili for the Government of Georgia.
Note that the agreement had been initialed by Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan and Georgian Premier Irakli Gharibashsvili during Hovik Abrahamyan’s December 11-12 official visit to Georgia. At the same time, the two heads of government signed a protocol stipulating that the agreement should be signed by this yearend and the new bridge would be named Friendship Bridge.
The signing ceremony was followed by a meeting held between Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan and Georgian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili who is also the co-chair of the Armenian-Georgian task force on trade and economic affairs.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the development of relationship between the two countries and stressed the need for continued overhaul and strengthening of bilateral ties.
Both sides described the Premier’s recent official visit to Georgia as successful and highly efficient, which made it possible to implement the agreements reached earlier and outline new cooperation development areas.
The parties appreciated the current level of the Armenian-Georgian political dialogue, emphasizing that efforts should be made to accordingly tune up trade and economic cooperation.
As to making full use of the existing potentialities and implementing new joint projects, the interlocutors highlighted the role of the Armenian-Georgian intergovernmental commission and the economic task force, which held its second meeting earlier today in Yerevan.
