 The RA President Serzh Sargsyan accompanied by Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan visited the administrative district of Malatia Sebastia where together with the FIDE President Kirsan Ilumzhinov took part in the solemn opening of a new chess school. The honour of opening was given to Yerevan Mayor, the president of Yerevan Chess Federation Taron Margaryan and to the international Grand Mawster, chess Olympic champion, Honorary Citizen of Yerevan Levon Aronyan.
Presenting the President of the Republic the work done the Mayor of Yerevan noted that the chess school was constructed in the area of 400 sq m located on the ground floor of the kindergarten N 82 which used to be neglected for years.The area has been completely overhauled and reconstructed. The school has 4 classrooms provided with all necessary equipment, 1 assembly hall, 6 WCs and a vast hall. Taron Margaryan noted that the ne3w school is available for about 350 pupils aged 5-8 who can get their trainings free of charge.
Afterwards Taron Margaryan answered the questions of the journalists and stressed that with the aim of promotion this kind of sport in the capital, due to joint efforts of the Municipality of Yerevan and the Armenian Chess Academy all the administrative districts of the capital will have chess schools. “In 2013 together with the Armenian Chess Academy we initiated the program of chess schools construction in the capital and this program arose much enthusiasm among townspeople. We already had two chess schools at that time one of which had functions in Avan district since 2005. Last year we opened chess schools in Ajapnyak and Davtashen districts. Today we have put into operation another one and we are going to open four chess schools in Erebuni, Nor Nork, Arabkir and Kentron districts this month. The aim of the policy adopted by us is to have chess schools in all the 12 administrative districts and as the Mayor of Yerevan and the president of Yerevan Chess federation I assure you that we will realize this programs. I’d like to stress once again that all the schools we have opened and are going to open will work free of charge”, said the Mayor.
