PRESIDENT HOLDS CONSULTATION WITH RA MINSTER OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE AND RECTORS OF STATE HEIS

President Serzh Sargsyan today held a consultation with the RA Minister of Education and Science and the rectors of state higher education institutions (HEI).
The implementation process of instructions given at the previous consultation and issues that are still of great concern for state HEIs were discussed. Minister Armen Ashotyan gave a report of various activities carried out in line with the RA President’s instructions and their results. Ensuring equal conditions for competition in the sphere of HEI activities, development of an inclusive public policy in the given sphere and involvement of HEI representatives in activities aimed at improving legislation within the sphere, reformation of HEI organizational and legal status, development of comprehensive public program for promotion of natural science and engineering education, possibilities of building a HEI dormitory complex, providing social security benefits for teachers of high schools adjacent to HEIs, promotion of cooperation between military and civilian HEIs and a number of other topics were among common HEIS problems requiring government assistance.
Following the minister’s report, the President of the Council of Rectors and YSU Rector Aram Simonyan and each council member presented the primary issues facing the given education institution, its latest achievements and development projects. It was emphasized that the considerable part of the President’s instructions had been carried out, while some of them were under implementation.
The participants thanked the Armenian President for consistently focusing his attention on issues in the given sector, holding regular consultations thereby dealing with existing issues.
At the end of the consultation President Serzh Sargsyan instructed the RA Minister of Education and Science and the Chief of the Presidential Administration to sum up the issues having been put forward and their resolution proposals, discuss them with relevant public bodies and report the results. The president assured that all the issues and their possible solutions will be thoroughly discussed and the Council of Rectors will also be informed about the results.
