Government Approves Draft Agreement on European Economic Union

 A regular Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

The government approved a draft agreement referred to as “Republic of Armenia’s adherence to the May 29, 2014 Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union. Article 1 of the document states that Armenia will become a EEU member upon entry into force of the agreement and shall be bound to apply in the Republic of Armenia the legal acts adopted by EEU bodies.

Annexes 1 to 5 provide the list of those 29 treaties, to which the Republic of Armenia will accede, inclusive of amendments, transitional provisions and membership terms, as well as the inventory of those products eligible for application of rates different from the unified EEU customs tariffs during the transition period.

The Government allocated AMD1.5 billion to Shirak Marz administration to address through the provision of vouchers the housing needs of those Gyumri-based households left homeless following the earthquake of 1988. This is the first stage of the program, under which certificates will be made available to 215 families. 252 more households will get housing vouchers during the second stage of the program. The governor of Shirak Marz was appointed to be responsible for the process.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs was given an amount of over AMD20 million to assist gifted and talented children, youth, vulnerable Syrian-Armenian households, families of killed and disabled soldiers, one-sided orphans, 100 children from large and needy families.

Era PP LLC was granted a 5-year operator’s license for Alliance free economic zone (FEZ), which is located at the site of RAO Mars. The Company will conduct lighting equipment production activities. The FEZ-based activities will help attract new investment, boost the export of high-tech and IT output, as well as to promote Armenian-make brands on the international marketplace.

With the following decision, the Cabinet extended till November 1, 2017 the VAT payment deadline for goods, worth over 200 million drams, imported as part of the investment program implemented by RusAl-ArmenAl CJSC. The Company is among Armenia’s largest enterprises and the only one in Caucasus and Central Asia to produce aluminum foil.

The meeting decided to grant a compulsory military service deferment until the winter call-up campaign of 2017 to resident of Tashir town (Lori Marz) Hakob Sukiasyan, who is a post-graduate student at the Siberian State Aerospace University of the Russian Federation.

The State Institute of Theatrical Art and Cinematography was allocated a sum of about AMD 10 million to host a Teacher Day-dated gala event on October 5.
