Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan has visited the Union of Disabled People “Pyunik”

Within the frames of the working visit to Kentron administrative district Mayor Taron Margaryan visited the benevolent non-government organization-Armenian Association of the Disabled “Pyunik”. The head of “Pyunik” Hakob Abrahamyan presented the Mayor the process of construction the road connecting the first and the second buildings of the Union. The length of the joining construction is about 185 m and its width is 3 m. The head of the Union also noted that in the recent years the Municipality particularly focuses at the problems of the people with disabilities.
Mayor Taron Margaryan stressed that the Municipality is always ready to realize any initiative contributing to making the capital more available for the people with disabilities. In this context the most urgent problem was the unsatisfactory number of wheelchair ramps in the capital. Taking into account this problem last year about AMD 20 million was disbursed form the community budget. It should be noted that this year AMD 40 million has been disbursed from the community budget for the construction of wheelchair ramps and the 200 locations where the ramps are to be constructed were determined in advance. 100 ramps have already been constructed
During the visit Mayor Taron Margaryan also familiarized himself with the activities of the camp which has been organized for children with disabilities within the frames of “Yerevan summer 2014’ project for the second year running. This year about 50 children and young people together with their parents took part in the event held from August 25 to 28. The Mayor stressed that the program will be continued the following year and suggested doubling the number of participants.
Taking the opportunity Hakob Abrahamyan expressed gratitude for the 180 wheelchairs presented by the Municipality of Marseille, France which will be handed to the people who need them. “Since the very first meeting we have started an effective cooperation with the Mayor. I am sure that soon Yerevan will become the most comfortable and well-arranged city in the region”, said Hakob Abrahamyan. The mayor also had a meeting with the parents of the children with disabilities, talked to them and heard out their questions and suggestions. Taron Margaryan noted that this year 10 buses are to be adapted for the people with locomotor disabilities. The parents in their turn thanked the Mayor for permanent care and assistance as well as for the programs being realized for the people with disabilities. They also noted that Yerevan is gradually becoming more comfortable.
For permanent attention to the problems of disabled people as well as for the consistent policy of making Yerevan more comfortable Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan was awarded with thanksgiving diploma by the Union.
