Prime Minister visits care center for mentally retarded children

 Accompanied by Minister-Chief of Government Staff Davit Harutyunyan, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan visited “Salvation” organization, mentally disabled children and young people’s everyday activities and day care center for disabled children.

The Prime Minister toured the rooms, observing the conditions and opportunities, talked to young people. Then the Prime Minister met with the parents of children with mental problems, who presented their concerns, which related to the expansion of the premises, the procurement of another vehicle for the transportation of beneficiaries, organization of children’s summer vacation, renovation of the building, utilities and maintenance expense reimbursement, etc.

Listening to all the parents individually, the Premier promised to resolve the issues raised and issued recommendations to those responsible. At the end of the visit, one of the young people handed to the Prime Minister a clay souvenir of his own make. Founded in 1999, the mission of this center is to promote disabled children and young people’s education, health and social issues, education, counseling and medical services.

The center’s 65 beneficiaries are acquiring some professional skills in different art classes and get services from a psychologist, speech therapist, social worker, ergotherapist and a special teacher. Children’s movement from the center home and in the opposite direction is ensured with a minibus provided by Salvation NGO.

The center’s 24 employees’ salary is paid to the principle of co-financing by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Shengavit District Municipality and Yerevan Town Hall provided Salvation NGO with 900 square meter area in 1999 and in 2012 respectively to implement different projects.
