 In Davtashen district Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan took part in the opening of a charity canteen. As a result of the joint efforts of the Municipality, particularly the staff of Davtashen district and “Mission Armenia” benevolent NGO the canteen has been opened to serve 55 beneficiaries. In 10 administrative districts 19 charity canteens are functioning today and about 2400 beneficiaries make use of them. The Mayor was reported that as a result of cooperation with “Mission Armenia” such canteens had been arranged in 6 districts and besides meals other social services are rendered here: first medical aid, cultural events, excursions. Regarding the repairing of the charity canteen in Davtashen it was reported that about AMD 2.200.000 had been spent 600.000 of which had been disbursed form the Yerevan community budget.
Accompanied by the head of the district the Mayor walked about the canteen and familiarized himself with its conditions, talked to the beneficiaries. Taking the opportunity the elderly Yerevanians thanked taron Margaryan for permanent care and assistance in social programs. The Mayor once again stressed that the Municipality is always willing to assist within its powers in the implementation of any charity projects of social significance which can relieve the social burden of needy groups of society. “In the implementation of some social programs we cooperate with local and international organizations and regarding charity canteens in some cases we co-finance the work. We are grateful to all organizations taking part in this important mission, but both as the mayor and as a person I wish there were no need for such assistance at all and I hope there will be time when we will have no need for any charity support”, stressed Taron Margaryan.
As an important social program the Mayor also pointed out the support shown to Syrian Armenian families living in Yerevan stressing that the city authorities consider those programs of priority. “Since the beginning of this year about 500 Syrian Armenian families have got necessary support up today, and this support was in the form the beneficiaries asked themselves. We also attach big importance to integration of Syrian Armenian children in the new environment and we have taken certain measures in this regard. 100 children attending kindergartens and 400 schoolchildren are included in all state and citywide events and inter-school programs. Besides, we have carried out neediness assessment in those families and showed corresponding support”, stressed Taron Margaryan noting that the problems of Syrian Armenian families will always stay at the focus of the Municipality attention.
Then the Mayor visited the territorial center of complex social services of Davtashen. The Mayor got acquainted with the created working conditions and talked to the residents who were in the center at that moment. Taking the opportunity they thanked the Mayor stressing that the quality of work is good. The center serves about 1500 dwellers.
