PRESIDENT SERZH SARGSYAN RECEIVES RF FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER SERGEY LAVROV

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov who has arrived in Armenia on an official visit.
The president welcomed the guest and expressed confidence that as his previous visits, the RF Foreign Affairs Minister’s current visit will be effective and will be an important step geared towards strengthening the allied relations between the two countries. Serzh Sargsyan underscored that the arrangements made during the RF President’s state visit, as well as during their last September’s meeting in Moscow and the subsequent meeting on May 8 have enhanced the bilateral agenda and according to the president, the implementation of those arrangements will certainly give a new momentum to the Armenian-Russian cooperation in all spheres – from the coordination of foreign policy activities to the humanitarian cooperation. Serzh Sargsyan stressed that Armenia is determined to work seriously and actively, since this is the only approach which corresponds to the historical traditions between the two countries and of course, to the allied and strategic relations established in the course of time.
Thanking President Serzh Sargsyan for his reception and conveying RF President Vladimir Putin’s warm regards the RF Minister of Foreign Affairs assured that President Vladimir Putin is committed to the arrangements made with Serzh Sargsyan during his visit to Armenia at the end of the last year, as well as during Moscow’s meeting on May 8. Sergey Lavrov informed the Armenian President about the negotiations with the Armenian Foreign Affairs Minster conducted with the participation of the representatives of the two countries’ foreign affairs ministries during which they discussed a whole range of issues on the agenda of the Armenian-Russian relations, emphasized the dynamic activities promoted in all directions, including the bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic, the military technical and the humanitarian sphere, as well as the Armenian-Russian multidimensional cooperation within the frameworks of the CIS and the CSTO where Armenia and Russia are allies and reliable friends. The RF Foreign Affairs Minister told that he also discussed the processes concerning Armenia’s involvement in the Eurasian economic integration with his colleague. He expressed hope that today they will hear goods news from Sochi where relevant consultations are held. According to the RF Foreign Affairs Minister issues pertaining to the Armenian-Russian collaboration within the framework of various international organizations - the UN, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, the Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation - were discussed at the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the coordination of the two countries’ foreign policy activities were touched upon. Minister Lavrov assured that he and his Armenian colleague also discussed the situation in the Middle East and North Africa and exchanged opinions on the situation in Ukraine. Unsurprisingly, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution issue was also discussed. According to Sergey Lavrov, Russia is committed to the principles expressed by the presidents of the three co-chair countries many times.
President Serzh Sargsyan and RF Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov dwelled on the process of implementing the Armenian-Russian high-level arrangements in all directions and outlined subsequent steps aimed at reinforcing the bilateral and multilateral collaboration.
