Tribute to the Memory of the Pontic Greeks

On May 19 the RA NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, deputies of the NA factions, Ioannis Tais, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to the RA, clergymen and representatives of the Greek community of Armenia visited Tsitsernakaberd and laid wreaths and flowers at the Armenian Genocide Memorial.
The attendees paid tribute in silence to the memory of the victims of the genocide perpetrated towards the Pontic Greeks by the Ottoman Turkey in the territory of Asia Minor in 1915-1923.
Head of Artik Diocese, His Grace Hovakim Bishop Manoukian observed a ceremony of Repose of Souls.
Noting that the RA authorities do their best in condemnation of the genocide towards the Christian peoples planned and organized by the Ottoman Turkey in the territory of the Asia Minor the NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov in his word said that on April 24, 2011 the National Assembly of Armenia called on the international community to condemn not only the Armenian Genocide, but also the Greek and Assyrian peoples’ genocide. According to Eduard Sharmazanov, time dictates to live and fight. “We should fight for the protection of human rights and restoration of historical justice,” the NA Vice President said.
Ioannis Tais, Greek Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the RA, also condemned the genocide organized and perpetrated towards the Pontic Greeks by the Ottoman Turkey in the territory of Asia Minor in 1915-1923 and noted that the Hellenic Parliament had officially recognized and condemned the genocide of Armenians and the Pontic Greeks.
Slava Rafaelidis, Chairman of Yerevan Ilios NGO, representative of the Greek community, noted that we should be exigent and fight unitedly for restoration of historic justice.
