RA NA President Galust Sahakyan Receives the Ambassador of Norway

On May 15 the President of the RA National Assembly Galust Sahakyan received Leidulv Atle Namtvedt, the newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Armenia (residence in Moscow).

Congratulating the Ambassador on the occasion of beginning his mission, the NA President expressed conviction that he would make his contribution to the development of Armenian-Norwegian inter-state relations. The President of the Armenian Parliament highlighted the development and enlargement of the multi-sphere and mutually beneficial cooperation with the Scandinavian countries, including Norway. He has stressed that he deems necessary to enliven the Armenian-Norwegian parliamentary contacts with bilateral and multi-lateral formats. Galust Sahakyan has noted that the people of Armenia are grateful to Norway for the humanitarian aid shown after the 1988 disastrous earthquake. He highly assessed Fridtjof Nansen’s contribution to protection of the rights of the Armenians who were deprived of their Motherland as a consequence of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Highly appreciating the current level of bilateral relations the Ambassador of Norway highlighted the development of the inter-parliamentary relations and the bilateral contacts. Leidulv Atle Namtvedt has expressed conviction that there is also a big potential of cooperation in the economy and other spheres. He assured that he would do his best to develop and strengthen the Armenian-Norwegian friendly relations.

Agreeing that the Armenian-Norwegian relations have rich history, the sides have expressed an opinion that it is necessary to deepen the bilateral relations in different spheres. Both sides highlighted the cooperation of Armenia and Norway in international organizations.

The interlocutors touched upon the regional problems, the NK conflict, the Armenian-Turkish relations, the accession of Armenia to the Customs Union and the RA-EU relationship.
