Czech Deputies in Parliament

On May 12 the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Hovhannes Sahakyan met with the delegation of the Committee on Petitions of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic led by Zuzka Bebarová-Rujbrová.
Welcoming the Czech counterparts, Hovhannes Sahakyan expressed conviction that the state visit paid by the RA President Serzh Sargsyan to the Czech Republic in January became a new stimulus in terms of developing and deepening the Armenian-Czech friendship and cooperation. In this context, Hovhannes Sahakyan deemed necessary the further development of the parliamentary cooperation with bilateral and multilateral formats. He presented the spheres of activities of the Committee led by him, noted the mechanisms of the protection of the citizens’ rights and the structures implementing the public protection in our country and introduced the RA legislation on holding referenda in connection with different issues.
Presenting the activities of the Committee led by her the Chair of the Committee on Petitions of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament has noted that it is engaged with the protection of rights of women and children, religious and other minorities, imprisoned persons. She also highlighted the deepening of the inter-parliamentary relations.
Ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide Hovhannes Sahakyan has expressed hope that the Czech Parliament will express its attitude on the matter as a democratic country.
On the same day the meeting of the delegation of the Czech Parliament and the members of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs took place.
The Committee Chair Elinar Vardanyan has highlighted the parliamentary cooperation, expressing conviction that this meeting is the best opportunity for beginning cooperation between the committees of parliaments of the two countries. She presented the composition of the Committee, the spheres of the activities and the work done.
At the guests’ request the members of the Committee touched upon the provision of the equal opportunities and equal rights for women and men, noting that day by day the women’s role increases in the public-political life: today in the National Assembly there are 14 deputies. They have been noted that in Armenia a number of NGOs on women’s problems function. Talking about the foreign policy, the members of the Committee emphasized the continuity of cooperation with the EU and in that issue the support of the European countries.
The sides also touched upon other issues of mutual interest.
