 Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia Mohammad Raiesi.

On behalf of the Government Armenia, congratulating the Ambassador and the friendly people of Iran on the national holiday – 35th anniversary of the Islamic revolution in Iran (celebrated on February 11) - Tigran Sargsyan wished them every success.

“Meetings like this help expand friendship between the two peoples, and we should consistently implement joint economic programs,” the Prime Minister said.

Ambassador Raiesi said the development of relations with Armenia is a foreign policy priority for Iran, which is ready to expand both bilateral and multilateral cooperation in different fields of activity, especially in energy and transit.

The parties discussed a wide range of issues on the agenda of Armenia-Iran trade and economic relationship (energy, tourism, infrastructure development). In this context, they touched on the construction of Meghri HPP and the third Armenia-Iran high-voltage power transmission line, as well as the railway construction and Iran-Armenia oil pipeline projects, which are currently in the design stage.

The Prime Minister said these programs are among his government’s priorities, and every effort will be made to implement them. It was also noted that as scheduled to be held later this year in Tehran, the upcoming 12th meeting of the Armenian-Iran intergovernmental commission might provide an opportunity to discuss the areas for expanding cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.

In terms of giving new impetus to bilateral cooperation, the two sides noted the importance of mutual high-level visits. Mr. Raiesi conveyed warm greetings on behalf of First Vice President of Iran Eshagh Jahangiri and forwarded an invitation for the Armenian Prime Minister to visit Iran.
