 Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan’s working visit to Diliajn is going on.

Chaired by the head of government, a consultative meeting was held at Dilijan Town Hall, during which Governor Armen Ghularyan and Mayor Armen Santuryan introduced the existing problems and activities.

Several priority programs were said to have been carried out over the past year with the State budget funding of about AMD450mn, including road construction and water supply projects. It was reported that the ongoing activities will ensure 24-hour water supply for 80 percent of the population in Dilijan.

Then, the Premier headed to the Goshavank monastic complex in order to get acquainted with the ongoing reconstruction of the Church of the Holy Virgin, its vestibule and the tomb of Mkhitar Gosh. Under the reconstruction project, decrepit plates in the ceiling of the porch will be replaced and vegetation sprouted in the roof and between the stones will be removed.

The Tomb of Mkhitar Gosh was in poor condition prior to the reconstruction, as a result of which the foundation of the Tomb has been dismantled, redesigned and reinforced.

To restore the Goshavank monastic complex, the Government allocated AMD16mn last year, additional 15 million drams this year. Note that restoration work is estimated at 280 million drams in total.

The Prime Minister cautioned the Ministry of Culture against possible deviations from the original historical-cultural design.

The head of government next called at the Haghartsin monastic complex to inspect the completed major overhaul work. The monastery was restored under the patronage of a member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi.

Built during 10-13 centuries, the Haghartsin monastic complex consists of three churches, two of which have been put on the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage.
