 As a result of the program of providing homeless people with temporary shelters initiated by the Municipality of Yerevan since the end of 2011, since January 2014 the temporary shelter for the homeless functioning adjunct to the Yerevan hostel N1 subordinated to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the RA has been combined with the temporary shelter for the homeless functioning in the building of the Armenian-Danish benevolent foundation "Hans Christian Cofoed".
To get acquainted with the process of implementation of the unification the head of the Department of Social Welfare Ruzanna Zakaryan visited the temporary shelter, talked with the beneficiaries of the hostel. Certainly she didn't visit them empty-handed: the Municipality of Yerevan presented sweets to the beneficiaries.
In the period from the beginning of the program till the end of 2013 225 homeless people were registered and placed in the temporary shelter and about 85 of them-in 2013. As a result of the unification another 43 beneficiaries were placed in the hostel.
"Due to the realization of the program the Municipality in fact solved 2 important problems. First, the people appeared in difficult situation were gathered and placed in the hostel and they were rendered various social support as well. Second, certain work was implemented in the direction of prevention of social crimes, particularly regarding those who returned from imprisonment and became homeless: they got temporary shelters, were provided with social and psychological rehabilitation services, legal and consulting support. Such approaches have preventive effectiveness in repeated crime and finally they promoted social integration of those people'', said Ruzanna Zakaryan.
Then a conference with the staff of the hostel was convened during which the plans for 2014 and the activities directed at the implementation of the programs were discussed.
