Public Figures Get Premier’s Awards On National Currency 20th Anniversary

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan awarded a group of public figures on the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s national currency. Levon Barkhudaryan (Minister of Finance in 1993) and Bagrat Asatryan (Central Bank Chairman in 1994-1998) were presented with the Prime Minister’s commemorative medals.
Premier’s souvenirs were handed to former CBA Chairman Isahak Isahakyan, AMD characters co-author Karen Komendaryan, banknote decorators - designers Harutyun Samuelyan and Ashot Manukyan, CB numismatics expert Gevorg Mughalyan, 1993-1996 First Deputy Minister of Finance Armenak Darbinyan, acting Economy Minister Vahram Avanesyan, Deputy Chairman of the USSR State Bank Armenian office Hendel Stepanyan, Head of Central Bank Operatins Department and Central Bank Board member George Machanyan.
Congratulating those present on the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s national currency, the head of government highly appreciated their contribution to the process of national cuurency introduction.

With a view to developing complex measures for streamlining money supply and money circulation in the Republic of Armenia, the Money Circulation Regulatory Commission was set up by the decision of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Armenia, chaired by Head of Supreme Council Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary issues Tigran Sargsyan, CBA Chairman Isahak Isahakyan, Minister of Finance Levon Barkhudaryan, who were responsible for situational decision-making.
In accordance with the Commission’s resolution No.15 of 19.11.93, Dram - the National Currency - was put into circulation starting November 22, 1993.
