RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan Visits the Ancient Dvin

On November 4 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan accompanied by the NA Vice President Hermine Naghdalyan, the Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan, the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Artak Davtyan and members of the Committees, as well as the Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan and the Head of Ararat Marz Aramais Grigoryan visited the Ancient Dvin in Ararat Marz. The Head of the Parliament was in the ruins of the capital Dvin of the Medieval Armenia, where archaeological excavations were going on. Hovik Abrahamyan got acquainted with the works done and the items discovered as a result of excavations. Let us note that the ancient place covers about 2ha territory. The excavations in Dvin began 70 years ago, continued with certain interruptions and the last one restarted in 2006. During the long years of excavations of the city secular, worshipping and industrial territories belonging to the different centuries of the citadel and quarters were opened, which in their turn gave an opportunity to understand the chronological picture of the existence of Dvin. The NA President Hovik Abrahamyan took a tour in the territory; he was interested in the items of historical importance. The Head of the Parliament promised to support the programmes providing the natural procedure of the works and the works of strengthening the excavation site.
The Director of the RA NAS Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography Pavel Avetisyan thanked the NA President for such a proposal and noted that it would give an opportunity to make known this unique ancient territory to the world. In his turn the Head of the Parliament underlined the importance of the ancient territory not only in terms of history, but he also highlighted the fact of making it a tourism zone.
