U.S. Ambassador to the RA in Parliament

On November 19 the RA National Assembly Vice President, the Head of the Armenia-USA Friendship Group Hermine Naghdalyan met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Armenia John Heffern and the Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy Christopher Andersen.

Welcoming the guests Hermine Naghdalyan highly assessed the U.S. kind attitude towards Armenia and the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. She highlighted the activation of the inter-parliamentary relations and mutual visits, which according to the NA Vice President, is very important from the view of the exchange of experience for Armenia.

Hermine Naghdalyan congratulated the Ambassador on reelection of Barack Obama as U.S. President.

John Heffern also highlighted the reinforcement of inter-parliamentary relations and enlivening of cooperation. To his request, Hermine Naghdalyan touched upon the inter-party relations, the parliamentary processes, which are aimed at strengthening the NA oversight functions. In relation to this issue the sides referred to the recently adopted next year program of the Control Chamber and the proposals included in it.

In the course of the meeting the interlocutors touched upon the past parliamentary elections, the upcoming presidential elections in Armenia, the proposals regarding the reform of the RA Electoral Code and the envisaging works. Both sides emphasized the holding of fair, transparent and competitive elections.

In this context the NA Vice President Hermine Naghdalyan has assured them that the political leadership of the country is resolute to hold fair and transparent presidential elections.
