04.10.2012
President Serzh Sargsyan received today a delegation of the Switzerland-Armenia parliamentary friendship group of the lower house of the Swiss Parliament – National Council, headed by the Co-Chairs of the Group Ueli Leuenberger and Dominique de Buman.
The President welcomed the visit of the Swiss parliamentarians to our country and to the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. According to the President, such visits are very important from the view point of familiarizing with the region, the NK peace process and current issues and getting comprehensive information on the pre-history of the conflict. “You will share impressions received during this visit with your colleague in Parliament and, in general, with all those people who are concerned with the stability and peace in our region. This is a very important factor because the resolution of the NK issue is impossible without the participation of the international community,” President Sargsyan said.
The President of Armenia welcomed the fact that parliamentarians of the friendly states display interest in that issue and recently a number of presentable delegations from different countries have visited Nagorno Karabakh. “It is greatly commendable that the world’s progressive community is starting to review its approaches and arrive at the conclusion that the people of Nagorno Karabakh, just like other peoples of the world, have the right to live in freedom and security and that they are building a truly democratic state and civil society,” the President of Armenia said.
The parliamentarians from Switzerland noted that they were deeply impressed by their visits to Armenia and NKR and would certainly present their impressions to the Swiss government, which several months later will assume presidency at the OSCE, and will make efforts for the resolution of the regional problems and establishment of durable peace.
The parties noted with satisfaction that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Switzerland, in the last twenty years the two states have formed an amicably developing high-level interstate dialogue which is developing by year through the reciprocal visits and cooperation in different international forums. Particularly stressed were works conducted in the framework of parliamentary diplomacy and especially at the level of friendship groups, aimed at the further strengthening of bilateral relations.
