Armenian Studies Council Holds Meeting

Chaired by Council Chairman, Republic of Armenia Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the Armenian Studies Council met today in a regular sitting in the Office of Government.
President of the National Academy of Sciences Radik Martirosyan reported progress in the implementation of actions as specified in “Republic of Armenia Armenian Studies Development Strategy for 2012-2025.”
Note that at the cabinet sitting of January 12, 2012, the government approved a concept for the development of Armenian studies, including a strategy and an action plan for 2010-2025. The primary goal is was combine the State’s and intellectuals’ efforts toward turning Armenian Studies into a powerful factor of national security.
Member of the National Academy of Sciences, Academician Yuri Suvaryan talked about the need to create a pan-Armenian fund to finance Armenian studies. Speaking about the foundation’s goals and objectives, he said that it is supposed to promote development and implementation of relevant programs.
In this regard, Prime Minister Sargsyan noted in particular: “We have established priorities for the development of scientific research under which Armenian Studies shall get priority funding from the State, including the academic system of post-graduate studies, research papers, scientific activities and institutions. We are trying to create better conditions for the development of Armenian studies.”
During the exchange of opinions that followed, the council members provided opinions and proposals on the matter.
