Armenian Minister of Healthcare receives US Ambassador

Armenian Minister of Healthcare Derenik Dumanyan received US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern, Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Jatinder Chima, and Head of USAID Armenia Democracy and Governance Office Stephen Brager. Welcoming the guests, the Minister thanked the US government and people for the support extended to Armenia’s healthcare system and for years-long cooperation, press service of Armenia’s Ministry of Healthcare told Armenpress. Derenik Dumanyan referred to the agreement on assisting the reforms in healthcare and social services signed between the Armenian government and USAID in 2010 August 6. The ambassador, for his part, singled out the program on improving the ambulance service, which it is being implemented in frame of an agreement signed between the USAID, US Embassy and Armenian Healthcare Ministry. At the same time he attached importance to Diaspora’s participation in the implemented programs, which have played a notable role in healthcare of the Armenian population. Highly assessing the capacities of the Armenian Eye Care Project, John Heffern proposed to expand the services and set up jointly a Center for Excellence in Eye Care, which will be one in the region.
