Samvel Nikoyan Receives the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Observation Mission Radmila Shekerinska

On May 12 the RA National Assembly Speaker Samvel Nikoyan received the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Observation Mission Radmila Shekerinska.
Welcoming the guest Mr Nikoyan thanked her for implementing lively observation mission in the parliamentary elections, which was held on May 6. In his word, the authorities have a goal to provide the holding of the fair elections in compliance with the requirement of the law, their adequate perception by the society and international community.
The Head of the parliament presented the works, which have been done by the Monitoring Group created adjunct to the NA Speaker. This peculiar representational platform, the representatives of the political forces, as well as the NGOs and international organizations, which were involved in the electoral process, were jointly on legally equal bases holding discussions, gave opportunity to observe and prevent both problems demanding operative solution and issues connected with the use of the Electoral Code. Mr Nikoyan said later works would be done for elimination of the recorded shortcomings, which, nevertheless, had no essential impact on the outcomes of the elections.
Thanking for the reception and joint work that have been done with the NA different circles by now, Radmila Shekerinska has expressed conviction that the cooperation would continue, contributing to the further deepening of democracy in Armenia.
In the word of the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Observation Mission Radmila Shekerinska, the National Assembly should boast with the results, which are visible in their reports. It has been, particularly, mentioned that in the Electoral Code provide really stable base for the organization of the elections in compliance with the international standards. There are also directions subject to development, however in that issue, in his word, there is no need of showing hurriedness.
Ms Shekerinska qualified right decision the creation of the Monitoring Group adjunct to the NA Speaker and highlighted the work that had been together done, providing equal opportunities for participation. The representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR have also attended the works of the group, and the conclusion has been that this format having no precedent can be also used in future.
The Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Observation Mission said that they would submit their final report in two months, where some post-election observations, proposals would also be included.
During the meeting they touched upon other issues of bilateral interest, too.
