Today the international conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the NKR declaration on the theme “20th Anniversary of the NKR Independence: Realities and Perspectives” has started in Stepanakert. Ashot Ghulyan, Speaker of the NKR National Assembly, Gagik Harutyunyan, President of the RA Constitutional Court, Eduard Sharmazanov, RA NA Deputy Speaker, Vazgen Manukyan, President of the RA Public Council and others delivered speeches in the conference.

The RA NA Deputy Speaker has welcomed the conference participants, noting in particular that the independence of the Republic of Artsakh is substantiated by the USSR legislation and international legal norms. “Artsakh, in fact is an independent state, which has gained its independence in the aggressive war, unleashed by Azerbajian, and unlike Azerbaijan, builds a state, which as the RA President Serzh Sargsyan has noted, is based on democratic values,” Mr Sharmazanov has said, underlining that everybody’s endeavors should be directed at the international recognition of Artsakh. In hiw word, the last developments show that a campaign of nations’ self-determination is going on in the world: with the example of South Sudan and Eastern Timor. “I am sure that the Artsakh problem has one solution: that is the international recognition of the state of Artsakh,” the NA Deputy Speaker has noted in his speech.
