• Each and every rational reckoning that victory was impossible was defeated by the unbiding determination to live with dignity

• Faith was stronger than fear

• Resolve to be free defeated despair 

• National responsibility overpowered conformism 

• Greater goals were acknowledged as more important that personal safety

• Freedom and independence remained vital, non-negotiable values

• And finally, temporary losses did not become a reason to accept the defeat but rather a driving force to carry on with the struggle. 

 

And the heroic battles of May became a reality.
