President Serzh Sargsyan received today delegation headed by the President of the National Council of Slovakia Andrej Danko.

The President of Armenia welcomed the guests to our country and underscored that Armenia attaches great importance to the interparliamentary relations considering them a significant element of the interstate relations. Serzh Sargsyan expressed hope that the visit of the President of the National Council of Slovakia will give a new impetus to the strengthening and deepening of the relations between the legislatures of the two friendly peoples. Noting that even though this is the first visit of Mr. Danko to Armenia in his capacity as President of the National Council of Slovakia, Serzh Sargsyan recalled his visit to our country in April 2015 when he participated at the events dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. With this regard, President Sargsyan expressed his gratitude to Andrej Danko for his principled position on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide. He also hailed efforts of all members of the National Council who have brought their considerable contribution to the recognition by Slovakia of the Genocide and criminalization of its denial. The President of Armenia noted with satisfaction that Slovakia is an important partner for Armenia in Europe and our country is interested in expanding and developing relations with Slovakia in the political, trade, economic, cultural and other areas of mutual interest.

The parties mutually agreed that the Armenian-Slovak cooperation in the framework of international organizations is efficient. The President of the National Council of Slovakia on behalf of his delegation and his own behalf expressed gratitude to the friendly Armenia for the warm welcome and underscored that he has great respect towards the Armenian nation and our centuries-long history and hailed the contribution of the Armenian people to the European civilization.

At the meeting, in addition to the bilateral Armenian-Slovak relations, the parties spoke also about the Armenia-EU relations based on the common European values, regional problems, including the NK problem, and the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
