04.07.2015

President Serzh Sargsyan was hosted today at the residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia on the occasion of American Independence Day. Serzh Sargsyan congratulated Ambassador Richard Mills and, in the person of him, the embassy staff and the entire people of the United States of America.

The Armenian president has also sent a congratulatory message to U.S. President Barack Obama which reads as follows:

Dear Mr. President,

“I warmly congratulate and send my best wishes to you and to the friendly people of the United States on the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States of America.

We highly appreciate the Armenia-US friendship which is based on common values and mutual respect and trust. We attach great importance to the role that the United States plays in safeguarding the security and stability in the South Caucasus, as well as in promoting the process of reforms currently underway in Armenia. The close and diversified ties of partnership between our countries continue to transform into practical steps on the way of economic development of Armenia, strengthening of democratic institutions and consolidation of civil society.

This year has been marked by a number of important events for our countries – a substantial reform of the visa regime, signing of Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, and the biggest so far US investment in Armenia’s economy. I am confident that these accomplishments are capable of visibly advancing our cooperation. We will continue to do the utmost in order to make full and effective use of the existing significant potential in our bilateral relations.

Of great importance is also the role played by the United States as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair in the process of peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We anticipate that your country will continue its effective mediatory mission and positive engagement for the sake of establishment of strong and lasting peace in the region.

Please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”
