PRESIDENT MEETS PUBLIC COUNCIL MEMBERS

 Today, President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting with the members of the Public Council.

The Armenian President was presented a series of issues of public concern having hitherto been discussed by various commissions of the Council, the approaches of the Council toward those issues, as well as the results of analyses and the proposals. Particularly, the issue of emigration and the reasons leading to that phenomenon, its outcomes and prevention possibilities, the process of Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and in case of membership its new development opportunities, the fortification of the border zone and the maintenance of security, the issues of mining industry and ecology, the increase of the electricity tariff, the issues pertaining to the introduction of the accumulative pension system and the Constitutional amendments were touched upon.

The members of the Public Council received information about the mentioned issues and were presented the works and the projects being implemented by the state in the aforementioned directions.

The President of the Public Council Vazgen Manukyan informed that the Council members had had active discussions with the President and the members of the Specialized Commission for Constitutional Amendments and had presented numerous proposals some part of which had been accepted. However, he added that there is still lack of consensus on some issues which necessitates holding new discussions. The president assured that there is still enough time for such discussions.

The Public Council also presented numerous proposals on the issues of fortifying the border zone and ensuring security. Particularly, an active discussion was held on arming the population of the border communities which was rejected by the president who dwelled on the existing conditions created in the armed forced for border dwellers able to use a weapon.

President Serzh Sargsyan answered the questions of the Council members.

The members of the Public Council and the RA President also discussed issues pertaining to the Council’s future activities.
