 During his visit to Erebuni district Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan visited the new chess school which is being built here and the watched the process. Answering the questions of the journalists the Mayor said that in 2005, together with the vice-president of the Armenian Chess Federation Smbat Lputyan the first chess school was founded in Avan district. "In the course of the following years it has been proved that that this initiative is justified. Today we are implementing the program which provides foundation of chess schools in all 12 administrative districts. Last year we opened chess schools in Ajapnyak and Davtashen districts, and by the end of this year we plan to open chess schools in 5 districts: Erebuni, Nor Nork, Arabkir, Malatia Sebastia and Kentron. This way the number of chess schools operated under municipality jurisdiction will become 8. Next year we will continue with the rest districts. As the Mayor of Yerevan and as the President of Yerevan Chess Federation I assure everybody that we will do our best to uphold the worldwide fame of Armenian chess", said Taron Margaryan. By the way, the three chess schools functioning today include 800 children and the future schools work free of charge.
